Our Mission
Our mission is simple: help Edmonton homeowners make confident, well-informed decisions about home services — without wading through advice that was written for a generic audience and doesn't account for the realities of living in Alberta.
Edmonton presents unique challenges that most home service content ignores entirely. We're a city that swings from −40°C winters to +35°C summers, where freeze-thaw cycles stress foundations and rooflines every spring, where natural gas heating isn't optional, and where the City of Edmonton's permit and inspection requirements differ from the rest of the province. We write with all of that in mind.
Whether you're comparing furnace brands for an Edmonton winter, figuring out which roofing materials hold up best against our hail seasons, or trying to understand Alberta's solar rebate landscape, we aim to be the most useful resource in the city.
What Makes Us Different
- Hyperlocal focus: We write neighbourhood-level guides covering areas from Glenora and Oliver to Windermere and Mill Woods — not generic city-wide advice. We reference local permit offices, Edmonton utility providers, and Alberta-specific regulations where relevant.
- Climate-aware content: Edmonton's climate is one of the harshest in Canada for homes. Our guides account for permafrost-adjacent soil conditions, ice damming, extreme temperature differentials, and the specific demands those conditions place on your plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and insulation.
- Real homeowner experience: Our team has collectively hired dozens of Edmonton tradespeople, managed renovations through city permit processes, and learned the hard way which questions to ask before signing a quote. We share what we've learned so you don't have to repeat our mistakes.
- No paid recommendations: We do not accept money, gifts, or affiliate commissions from contractors or service providers in exchange for positive coverage. When we recommend a product or approach, it's because the evidence supports it.
- Cited sources: Where we reference codes, standards, or data, we link to City of Edmonton bylaws, the Alberta Building Code, NRCan resources, or other authoritative Canadian sources — not U.S.-based content that doesn't apply here.
Neighbourhoods We Cover
We publish guides for homeowners across all of Greater Edmonton, with particular depth in established residential neighbourhoods including Glenora, Westmount, Oliver, Strathcona, Ritchie, Bonnie Doon, Highlands, Glengarry, and Cloverdale in the inner city, and Terwillegar, Windermere, Ellerslie, Rutherford, and Summerside in the south. We also cover growing communities in the north and west ends, as well as satellite communities in the greater metro area.
Don't see your neighbourhood listed? Send us a note — we're always expanding our coverage.
Our Editorial Standards
Before we publish a guide, we:
- Cross-reference advice against applicable Alberta or Edmonton-specific codes and standards
- Verify that any recommended products or approaches are appropriate for Edmonton's climate zone (ASHRAE Zone 7A)
- Ensure no contractor, brand, or service provider has influenced the content through payment or incentive
- Update guides when regulations, rebate programs, or best practices change
Our content is for informational purposes and does not constitute professional trade or legal advice. We always recommend obtaining quotes from licensed Alberta contractors and pulling the appropriate City of Edmonton permits for any regulated work.
